Developing the concept
Punctuation signs are important to allow us to understand, since if we do not use them correctly or change the signs in places we can change the whole meaning of a text.

Placing the points.

The signs of punctuation are fundamental elements in our language that allow us to express ourselves and our ideas and feelings with more clarity. If we do not know how to use punctuation sings we can change the whole meaning of what we are trying to say. Be careful when writing!

An example of clear confusion is if we put an exclamation mark instead of a question mark. These two signs are completely different. A question marks offers doubt or an invitations and an exclamation mark affirms something and exclaims it. Pay attention to the advice and tricks to better read what is presented in the following video.
How to use commas correctly
Tips
  • Following correct punctuation stops us from making simple mistakes and causing confusion in daily communication, especially when we attempt to leave a message and another person must understand exactly what we wanted to say.

  • To begin a sentence we always use a capital letter and finish it with a full stop. If two or more sentences refer to the same subject we use a following period.

  • If the subject changes between two sentences, we place a period and a space.
  • When we list things in a sentence we must separate them with commas with the exception of the last element in the list where we place “and” before it. If we want to establish a larger space in the writing we place a semi-colon.
  • When we read the newspaper and there is a dialogue and someone asks something with exclamation marks (¡!!!), this indicates urgency in the necessity of an answer or a very emotive tone in the question.
Curiosities
It was Archimedes who immortalized the word Eureka! After coming up with a brilliant idea. Without the exclamation history loses much of its meaning.
The North American rock band “Panic! At the disco” took out the exclamation mark from their name as it was considered unnecessary to use it.
We are often use to just writing one exclamation or question mark which we place at the end of a phrase. This is different in the Spanish language where they place the signs at the beginning of the question or phrase.
The phrase “Got milk?” was use to promote the consumption of cow’s milk in the U.S.A.
